Watch a COPO Camaro in the 8s out of the box

COPO Chevrolet Camaro burnout

If this YouTube video is to be believed, then Chevrolet definitely did not forget to put the FAST in the COPO Camaro. Car number three and its 327-cubic-inch engine topped with the 4.0-liter blower ran what looks like an 8.88-second quarter-mile at the strip, out of the box.

That puts it at the pointy end of the three-way competition between it, the Ford Mustang Cobra Jet and the Mopar Challenger Drag Pak. Ford has said the Cobra Jet will run in under 10 seconds, while the Challenger Drag Pak did a 9.43 out of the box last year. We're sure this is just the beginning of what will be a long, and very loud, rivalry. Have a look at the video below to see the latest round.

COPO Camaros start delivery, hear them roar

Back in March, we told you that Chevrolet was actually going to build the Whitesnake-level-awesome COPO Camaro after the drag-ready Camaro was showed off at SEMA as a concept.

The first four COPO Camaros have filed out of the COPO Assembly Facility. COPO numbers 3, 5, 7 and 9 were rolled onto the transport truck, and car number seven was caught on video, highlighted by the roar of its monstrous engine. Throw in a massive cowl induction hood and Hoosier slicks, and the mullet-inducing awesomeness of the COPO is hard to beat.

At the drag strip, the COPO will go against the supercharged Ford Mustang Cobra Jet and the Mopar Challenger Drag Pak, complete with a 512-cubic-inch V10. The COPO will take them on with a choice of engines that include a naturally aspirated 427 and two supercharged 327 options (one with a 2.9-liter supercharger, the other offering a 4.0-liter screw).

Click play on the video below to listen to the glorious engine note and try to figure out which mill is powerplant is under the hood.

Chevy Camaro NASCAR looks the business

Posted by Newbie Bloggers on Thursday, 9 August 2012

Chevrolet has stepped up to the NASCAR Nationwide Series plate with a racer that not only isn't an Impala, it isn't bad on the eyes. The junior series to the Sprint Cup big dogs had made concessions to allow cars that look more like their production counterparts. While some disagree, the cars still have nothing to do with their production counterparts, but hey, that's NASCAR. The new rules induced Ford to hop in with a Mustang, while Dodge opted to go with a Challenger. Chevy, on the other hand, stuck with its Impala.

No more: welcome the new Camaro to the NASCAR Nationwide Series. No, it won't be that much different than its Mustang, Challenger and Camry competition underneath its blue, blue skin, but from this angle that's all right. If they could run it just like this, with no sponsor stickers to get in the way, well, we think that would be epic.

Chevrolet will begin racing the Camaro next season, while the Impala will also be replaced in the Sprint Cup series when the new Chevrolet SS NASCAR racer makes it debut at the Daytona 500 next year.
