2013 BMW M5 Power Output Specs May Be Grossly Underrated w/Video

Now that the new BMW M5 has made its way into the garages of eager enthusiasts here in America, new owners have had time to take them to local shops and strap it onto a dyno to see what horsepower numbers it really lays down.

M5post.com recently posted a dyno graph of the new BMW M5 laying down 527 rear-wheel horsepower and 476 pound-feet of torque courtesy of INDDistribution. Considering how BMW was found to have underrated horsepower numbers lately on vehicles such as the new 328i, it is no surprise to see that the new M5 is laying down more power than expected.

These numbers would account for only a small loss of power through the drivetrain, about 6%, which is mostly unheard of. Usually, drivetrain power losses account for something close to 15%. Unless this is one heck of an efficient drivetrain, we speculate that the new M5 has a bit more than the documented 560 horsepower at the flywheel. All things considered, this is not a bad thing at all when the new M5s rear wheels have the job of propelling just over 4,300 pounds.
